An Architectural Technologist applies the science of architecture
and specialises in the technology of building design and construction.
Fully qualified Architectural Technologists (MBIAT: Member of
the British Institute of Architectural Technologists) have demonstrated
competence in these areas and can undertake a building project
from inception through to final completion. This includes issuing
the Certificate of Inspection to release funds from mortgage lenders.
All members must abide by the Institute’s Code of Conduct,
and those who provide services directly to clients must obtain
and maintain professional indemnity insurance. Only full Members
are permitted to practise on their own account under the BIAT
banner.
To find a qualified Architectural Technologist, contact British
Institute of Architectural Technologists at 397 City Road, London
EC1V 1NH, 020 7278 2206.
BIAT can send you a Directory of Practices, which is a list of
Members who offer services to the public. This is also available
online at www.biat.org.uk under “find a member”.
Be aware that the titles “architectural technologist”
“architectural technician” or “draughtsman”
are not protected which means that anyone can use these terms.
This is why we recommend that you ensure that the individual you
employ is fully qualified or the practice you appoint has qualified
professionals by checking their membership with BIAT(or other
relevant professional bodies, such as RIBA)
